Daikin increases heat pump possibilities

BELGIUM: Daikin’s EWYT-CZ series of R32 small inverter heat pumps has been upgraded with new features to improve its heating applicability in residential buildings.

Originally launched in 2021, the R32 small Inverter range has been upgraded with new features to enable it to run in combination with Daikin Altherma indoor heat pumps, for example, or traditional boilers and electric heaters. The various configuration options are said to enable the design of a system that provides comfort heating and hot sanitary water with greater energy efficiency and lower CO2 emissions.

In bivalent operation, the EWYT-CZ is now able to connect to, and communicate with, one or more boilers, connected in series with the heat pump decoupled via heat exchanger or hydraulic separator. This configuration maximises the operations of the heat pump while reducing the use of the gas boilers.

In water loop cascade configuration the small inverter heat pumps can be paired with Daikin Altherma high temperature indoor heat pump units to provide water at a constant temperature to be distributed to indoor units located in different housing units. This configuration allows residents of flats or apartments, for instance, to benefit from a dedicated system able to meet all needs – cooling, heating, and hot water.

When domestic hot water is enabled, the EWYT-CZ activates a digital output to control an external heater. With the heat pump as primary hot water heater, the external heater provides eventual adjustments. In this configuration, it is also possible to install the water tank up to 50m from the small inverter heat pump.

The EWYT-CZ series is available in heating and cooling capacity ranges from 16-90kW.
